As a valued customer, you are receiving an exclusive preview of our latest developments in high-speed film scanning. The new spinner S3 combines all the proventechnologies of our spinner series but adds a feature that has already demonstrated its worth on our flashscan NOVA small gauge film scanner: The automatic Easy Wet Gate for all film formats up to 35mm.

Our wet gate utilizes isopropyl alcohol within a closed system. The design was determined by the need to protect the sensor, lens, and light source from any liquid potentially dripping from the film. A hood and an exhaust system ensure a workspace that is as odor-free as possible.

Our sustainability program now includes units manufactured from 2009 onwards where the upgrade of state-of-the-art sensor technology is worth while and makes sense. These include the flashscan HD for 8 and 9,5 mm, as well as the flashtransfer CHOICE and VARIO series.
We will have the following machines on site: Multi format film scanner spinner S2 with 13.4k sensor (SONY IMX 661), which enables scans for up to super6k which corresponds to the quality of a scanner with a monochrome sensor. Viewing table spinner V with new variants, for example for use in broadcast archives, can also be used as a sound follower. Small gauge film scanner flashscan NOVA with Easy Wet Gate.

In 2025, MWA Services GmbH digitised and restored several student short films for HFF Munich – University of Television and Film. The 35mm and 16mm films were scanned in 3K overscan on the MWA Nova Spinner S2 using its 9.5K colour-sequential camera and wetgate.

One of these films, Der Fremde Donner (1984), starring renowned German actor Dieter Pfaff, will be screened on Wednesday, 26 August, at 7:00 pm at Sinema Transtopia in Berlin, followed by a discussion with scholars and curators.

The 40th edition of the festival is taking place this year. Today, Il Cinema Ritrovato is much more than a film festival. It is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading events dedicated to film preservation, restoration, and the study of cinema history.

Organized annually by the Cineteca di Bologna, it serves as a meeting point for archivists, scholars, filmmakers, and cinephiles from around the globe.
The festival functions as an important forum for academic exchange and professional development. Through lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and archival presentations, it connects scholarly research with public engagement. It has become a major gathering place for film historians, archivists, restoration specialists, and students.

As part of the festival, a program of technical meetings will also be held in the DAMSLab auditorium. This program highlights film-specific projects and processes, with film technology for digitization and restoration playing a major role.
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:20 a.m., Bernhard Wanko will speak about the history of MWA (Mechanische Werkstätten Albrecht). The centenary in 2026 honors not only an impressive corporate history but also a century of technical creativity, entrepreneurial perseverance, and significance in film history. A unique arc of German technological history spans from the first radio kits of the 1920s and the post-war magnetic film revolution to modern digital film scanners.
100 years of MWA means 100 years of innovation for film, sound, and media – developed in Berlin, used around the world.
